Bad Kleinkirchheim
Bad Kleinkirchheim
After the fun on the slopes in the thermal baths
The one in the Carinthian Nock Mountains Bad Kleinkirchheim, located in the Austrian Alps, is certainly one of the most famous ski resorts in Austria - and that's not just because skiing king Franz Klammer is a testimonial for the resort. Women's World Cup races are regularly held there, which show in beautiful pictures how great skiing it is there - although there is currently a break. The resort also has an unparalleled range of thermal baths. There are two large thermal baths there, which have everything you need and cover all topics from fun to health. The Römerbad, located by the valley station of the Kaiserburgbahn, for example, offers everything that children enjoy, both indoors and outdoors, as well as 13 saunas on three levels as an alternative for adults. Also particularly family-friendly is the spacious St. Kathrein Therme in the middle of the town, with 1,200 square meters of swimming area, 86 meter slide, Roman-style sauna area and therapy center. In the ski area you will find "saunas on the slopes"; Of course, there is also Wi-Fi in the ski area, as well as the possibility to query Skiline.
The skiing offer is also impressive: The total of 103 kilometers of slopes are at an altitude of 1,100 to 2,039 meters and offer a wide range of skiing options between the Kaiserburg and the Brunnach Biosphere Park cable car/ St. Oswald district: The Franz Klammer World Cup slope, which opened at the end of 2003, is 3.2 kilometers long, has an altitude difference of 842 meters and a gradient of up to 80 percent - a truly challenging slope. The Strohsack slope is also a classic. Snowboarders and freestylers can enjoy a snow park and new fun slopes.
Generally The St. Oswald side is sunnier than the Bad Kleinkirchheim side, but the runs are varied on both sides of the mountain. If you want to do both sides in one day, you have plenty to do. The somewhat outdated lifts are now being gradually replaced - the 6-person Spitzeckbahn was built last year: The new chairlift replaces the drag lift opened in 1965 and is the first D-Line variant from Doppelmayr in Carinthia. Also new is the Kaiserburg Bob - Carinthia's first roller bobsleigh run. The modernization and more comfortable design of the connection between the two sides of the mountain, however, is still overdue.
On the other hand, it is no disadvantage that in recent years it has occasionally suffered from a shortage of snow due to its weather-related location between northern and southern influences. This is not really a problem: 800 snow cannons guarantee artificial snow on 97 percent of the slopes - and they are always perfectly groomed. Another alternative is the 60 kilometers of winter hiking trails through idyllic landscapes. And last but not least, the range of restaurants and hotels - most recently the Coee by ex-ski star Rainer Schönfelder - is also first class: There are 23 rustic huts in the ski area and the density of gourmet restaurants is above average, and not just for Carinthia.
