Wurzeralm – Spital am Phyrn
Wurzeralm – Spital am Pyhrn
Natural winter experience for all needs
The ski area Wurzeralm is connected to Hinterstoder and is so close as the crow flies that for years there has been debate about connecting it via a highly controversial tunnel - but this ultimately did not materialize. And so Wurzeralm continues to present itself as the original alternative to both areas. The day ski pass is valid in both areas, which are also connected by a free ski bus. In general, Wurzeralm is easy to reach via the Pyhrn motorway - from the valley station it takes seven minutes to get up on what is said to be one of the fastest funiculars in Europe. Around four million euros were invested in the new funicular and the new, modern cabins have been in operation since last year. Each carriage has a capacity of 140 people, so at peak times up to 1,450 people per hour can be transported to the Wurzeralm plateau. There is something for everyone - from beginners taking their first steps in the snow to sporty skiers.
There at 1,400 meters At 1,500 m above sea level, a diverse world of slopes spreads out before winter sports enthusiasts. The difficulty of the slopes is finely tuned so that neither youngsters nor experts get bored. For the little ones, the path leads from the Sunny Kids Park out onto the easier slopes. In the Sunny Kids Park with practice lift, conveyor belt, ski carousel and wave runs, children have everything that makes learning to ski fun. And so practicing on the slippery boards becomes a fun life. Fun, action and variety await the little - and also older - guests on the adventure slopes in the area of the "Junior Jet" drag lift with wave run, snake run, speed run and WISBI run ("How fast am I?" run). For advanced skiers, it's up to the highest point in the ski area, the 1,870-meter-high Frauenkar. This offers a fantastic view of the surrounding two-thousand-meter peaks and the valley. The motto is: the higher you go, the greater the enjoyment of the sport. The black panorama run and the Schwarzeck race track are real challenges for experienced skiers.
With a total of 22 kilometers of slopes There is plenty of variety. Eight lifts, red and blue slopes and two valley runs - one of which has snowmaking facilities - offer everything a winter sports enthusiast could wish for. Snowboarders and deep snow skiers also get their money's worth. The Frauenkar, for example, is ideal for freeriding. There is also a separate ski slope ascent track and regular ski slope evenings - as well as a snowshoe trail. The culinary offerings on the Wurzeralm are also quite good. The snowmaking system was recently renewed and expanded and the Sunny Kids Park improved.
