Hinterstoder-Höss

    Hinterstoder-Höss
World Cup-tested area for all skill levels

The Hinterstoder-Höss ski area is probably the most famous in Upper Austria. And not without reason: Despite a relatively modest 40 kilometers of slopes, the World Cup-tested resort - at the end of February 2020 there was a men's Super-G and a combination there again - has a lot to offer winter sports enthusiasts. It's not just locals who appreciate this. Hinterstoder is easily accessible via the Pyhrn motorway. The slopes are at an altitude of 600 to 2,000 meters and are surrounded by the rugged backdrop of the Limestone Alps. In December 2006, the downhill course named after downhill world champion Hannes Trinkl was inaugurated for the first time at two World Cup races. It is a challenge even for experienced skiers - and since this season the new, modern 10-person Höss cable car has been taking you up.

difficult slopes There are more, a quarter of all runs fall into the black category. The steepest is the Inferno piste with a gradient of up to 70 percent. For carving fans, there is a selective carving piste from the Hutterer Almen, and there is also a snow trail with a wave track. The panoramic pistes down from the 2,000 meter high Schafkogel are also appealing for normal skiers and snowboarders. Freeriders get their money's worth in the nearby Loigistal area. Touring on groomed pistes, however, is prohibited all day in the ski area due to the narrow and steep pistes. Hinterstoder also caters for beginners and less experienced skiers and boarders: the little ones can venture down various family pistes, for example. For children, there is also Sunny's Kids Park on the wide plateau on the Hutterer Böden. There, funny characters and child-friendly facilities are intended to make the hearts of the little ones beat faster and ensure fun in the snow and while learning to ski. There are practice lifts, conveyor belts, magic carpets, ski carousels and wave tracks. The beginners' slopes on the high plateau are particularly suitable for those returning to skiing. The snowmaking system was recently expanded and the off-piste offering was expanded to include two new signposted snowshoe trails. The Sunny Kids Park was also enlarged and two new conveyor belts were added. And there is a new quality self-catering apartment hotel.

For cross-country skiers Hinterstoder also has 49.4 kilometers of classic trails, 14 kilometers for skaters, and a 4.4-kilometer high-altitude trail. There are 120 kilometers of trails in the entire Pyhrn-Priel holiday region. Winter hikers can enjoy a variety of cleared trails in the Stodertal, which promise wintry and romantic impressions against the backdrop of the Totes Gebirge. Also worth mentioning is the ski tracker, which can be used to precisely record a day's skiing using a smartphone and then analyze it in detail, share it with friends, and compare it with others. Seven huts and restaurants in the ski area provide for your physical well-being. And in the town of Hinterstoder there is an illuminated natural toboggan run and the opportunity to try curling and ride a horse-drawn carriage.
