On April 5, 2025, the Stubai Glacier will be the venue for a new, spectacular skiing event in Tyrol: the Wilde Grube Ride, the toughest giant slalom in the world.

"Epic Rides. Epic Valley." is the motto of the Wilde Grube Ride in the Stubai Valley from April 4th to 6th, 2025. With ten kilometers of track, an elevation gain of 1,450 meters, and 200 gates, it's a challenge and is considered one of the toughest giant slaloms in the world. All adult athletes who want to take on the challenge are welcome to participate. Attractive prize money and numerous non-cash prizes are up for grabs. A comprehensive supporting program will be offered throughout the weekend surrounding the race on Saturday, April 5th, in the Stubai Valley.

Information about the route

The approximately ten-kilometer descent is not only very long but also physically demanding. It starts at 3,210 meters above sea level with views of the Stubai Mountains. Then, the 1,450-meter descent leads through the high alpine landscape of the glacier down to the valley. The highlight is the legendary “Wilde Grube” downhill, which is considered the heart of the race and requires special technical skills, concentration and strength.

Fritz Dopfer, the former Alpine Ski World Cup racer and World Championship silver medalist, emphasizes the high demands of the course: “I know the Stubai Valley very well, have trained here many times, and am very familiar with the Wilde Grube descent on the Stubai Glacier. It's a challenging route. Anyone who wants to be among the frontrunners over the ten kilometers has to manage their energy well and shouldn't go full throttle right from the start.."

The finish line of the Wilde Grube Ride is just above the Gamsgarten valley station, at 1,760 meters above sea level. There, the winners will be crowned in the so-called "Kingdom of Snow" on the Stubai Glacier. Participants will receive a briefing with all important information about the route, the schedule, and safety regulations on Friday, April 4, on-site in Neustift im Stubaital.

An exciting supporting program

In addition to the race itself, the Wilde Grube Ride offers an extensive supporting program throughout the entire weekend from April 4 to 6, 2025. The event kicks off on Friday with a pasta party at the village square in Neustift, where participants and spectators can get in the mood for the event with live music. The race day on Saturday will conclude with musical highlights and a grand awards ceremony, before the after-race party at the Sporthotel Mutterberg. Sunday's musical performances will round off the event weekend.

Registration for the event is now open. All details about participation, the route, and the supporting program can be found at www.wildegrube-ride.com.
