Kreischberg – Murau
Kreischberg – Murau
World Champion Snowboarder's El Dorado
This 868 to 2,118 meter high The ski area near Murau, with its total of 42 kilometers of slopes, enjoys the reputation of being a snowboarder's paradise and is a trendsetter in this regard. Boarders will find Europe's largest halfpipe here, as well as a top-class fun park that stretches over 800 meters. A variety of rails, jump boxes, rainbow boxes and kickers have been built on the World Championship slope, and there is also a children's box and a flat rail for kids. Even the World Championship halfpipe is integrated into the Airypark. There is also a boardercross course. The Kreischberg Snowpark was recently built at 1,900 meters above sea level, especially for freestylers - and a new practice slope for children was recently built at the Kreischi lift.
Kreischberg is a World Cup venue: In January 2009, six years after the Snowboard World Championship, the FIS Telemark World Championship took place there; in January 2015, the next World Championship took place there: a double World Championship in “Freestyle Ski & Snowboard”. And of course, there are regular Snowboard World Cup races.
Nevertheless, skiers also get their money's worth - and not just because more and more of them are venturing onto rails, obstacles and jumps. Kreischberg offers a dreamy atmosphere with extensive slopes in the middle of a snowy landscape as well as steep and challenging slopes that start above the tree line. And modernization is constantly being done: one of the major investments in recent times was the Sunshine lifts in the direction of Stadl/Mur. In 2017, a three-kilometer-long, spacious panoramic slope was built at 1,600 to 2,000 meters above sea level, including a modern 6-seater chairlift and a new panoramic bar with a view. Most recently, two new slopes were built on the Rosenkranz: No. 10a ("Hirschenschuss") is a wide "red" slope, ideal for enjoyable carving turns, and the black No. 7a is for established skiers. In order to have the most perfect slope conditions possible, the snowmaking system was renewed and expanded. A total of five snow groomers are in use - including "the Beast" - the world's largest model with 527 hp. Most recently, the new Eagle panoramic restaurant went into operation and in 2021 the 6-seater gondola lift built in 1992 was replaced by a state-of-the-art and high-performance 10-seater gondola lift. The cost, including the station building, is an impressive 40 million euros. With the new "Kreischberg 10er", the transport capacity from the valley station to the ski area will be doubled from the current almost 2,000 people/hour to around 4,000 people/hour.
In addition to the perfect descents There are a number of extras that promise additional fun: the tubing arena and the 1.2-kilometer-long Kreischberg toboggan run near the valley station. On the speed track - a steep slope around 100 meters long - the speed of the skiers can also be measured, which can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h. On the permanent race track, the time for a giant slalom lasting around 40 seconds is determined. There are of course activities for children on the Kreischberg, as well as winter hiking trails and a Kreischi cinema. The gastronomic offering is also quite appealing: 14 huts and ski bars, some of which have an international flair, which also corresponds to the mix of guests from the boarder scene, invite you to stop for a break.
