Stubaier Gletscher
Stubaier Gletscher
BIG and family-friendly
Simply take off and two floors up, immerse yourself in a completely different world. For example, with the still new Eisgratbahn, where the gourmet restaurant Schaufelspitz awaits at the end. This gives you an overview of the treeless area. Although, of course, the people here are less interested in floating and eating than in skiing down. At 4.7 kilometers, the longest 3S cable car in the Alps does exactly what was expected of it: waiting times are almost zero on almost every day. Get your skis from the depot and after a few minutes you're up seven supports in eleven minutes to 1,700 meters and then up to the Eisgrat mountain station at 2,900 meters. In addition to eight standing places, there are 24 leather seats and free WiFi.
The crowd shifts from the valley station to the slopes on some days, but only occasionally. Because there is enough slope space up there. The 4-seater Daunjoch chairlift has only recently opened up a mountainside that was previously reserved for only a few adventurous ski tourers. There you are often among your own. Is the "Daunhill", which has the longest sunniest run, really a black run? 3.2 kilometers long and a gradient of up to 60 percent suggest this. But in reality it all depends on the condition of the slopes. If the slope was freshly prepared in the morning, it offered pure exhilarating fun, but in the afternoon it required some effort. And once the slope even surprised the local ski instructor by unexpectedly offering deep snow. Not exactly to the delight of the basic turn artists trembling downwards. A total of 13 freeride routes attract professionals here - and in other parts of the area. The line that catches every freerider's eye first thing in the morning on the way up the mountain is "l'Ultimo - Run 7". 550 meters of altitude must be mastered, which places certain demands on fitness and skiing technique. And the avalanche risk should not be underestimated! A lot has been invested in the "Funslope" in recent years. On the so-called entertainment slope for the whole family, there are wave tracks, small jumps, obstacles and steep curves. It is a 1,000 meter long, easy ski cross course. The focus on the Stubai Glacier is the family anyway.
Under Big Family The high-quality childcare and free lift transport for children up to 10 years old are also included. The "Top of Tyrol" viewing platform at 3,200 meters above sea level is also suitable for families, offering a view far beyond the ski area. But soon the attention is again focused on the finely planed pistes on the Stubai Glacier itself. As you descend in long carving lines towards Gamsgarten, the wind is already whizzing around your ears. A few hundred meters further down the valley, in front of the Daunjochbahn mentioned above, lies the Gamsgarten, the central center of the glacier area. The sun terrace of the "Zur Goldenen Gams" service restaurant and the snow crystal pavilion provide another form of quiet lunch break. Especially when the fun park beckons with the addition of "Stubai Zoo".
A special adventure The final descent from below the Schaufelspitze can be a real challenge – or a physical feat of strength: First you fly over the wide expanses of the glacier before you plunge ten kilometers into the valley at the valley station of the Daunjochbahn, attracted by the rhombus signs with the number 14: "The Wilde Grub'n", not a groomed slope, but not too difficult either. It offers great views of the high alpine landscape. It's a shame that it's usually only used at the end of the day. The Fernau ski route is a simpler alternative.
