Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn

    Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn
    World champion in every respect

Between 1,000 and 2,000 meters you are in this ski region - and therefore at an altitude that is ideal for health. It is generally relaxed anyway, because the lifts are getting faster and faster, so even in normal years there is hardly any crowding when queuing. This means you can ski kilometers that were unthinkable in the days of school ski courses, which almost every Austrian has spent in the Glemmtal at some point. The slopes are mostly suitable for intermediate skiing ability, and the ski circus is primarily characterized by its extremely long distances.

World Cup final as a taste of the World Cup! Saalbach is proud to have once again been chosen as the venue for the Alpine Ski World Championships. Traditionally, the World Cup finals will take place in the third week of March in the year before the World Championships in 2024 as a test. There is no reason to be afraid of seeing spectacular races at this time but not being able to ski yourself. This even applies to the 2025 World Championships, as the races will be concentrated in the Hinterglemm-Zwölferkogel area. There is certainly enough space for your own turns. Major construction work is hardly necessary for major sporting events. For small work to expand the fall areas, 1,647 small animals from alpine salamanders to grass frogs had to be relocated, but perhaps apart from a few hotel construction projects, no particular disruption to winter holidays is to be expected. The new cable car (replacing the Zwölfer-Nord built in 1989) will then be ready to go in 2025.

A5 Limberg 8er is the name of the investment for this winter. The previous 4-seater chairlift has transported 15 million people in 29 years, the successor is faster, more comfortable and a little longer. This means that the seemingly endless laps of the "Home of Casual" can be done even more undisturbed. The slope conditions are also mostly good here, as further investments have been made in snowmaking in recent years. The Rosswald reservoir with a capacity of 230,000 m³ provides better protection for the slopes.

getting lost one could easily imagine such an extensive circuit of slopes. In theory and, since the valuable merger with Tiroler Fieberbrunn, sometimes in practice too. To ensure that this is no longer the case, a new piste guidance system was introduced last winter: ten alphanumeric zones, three colors for difficulty levels, another for safety/dangers, supplemented by detailed panoramic maps without distortion, information portals at the entry areas, LED displays for the lift/piste status are the ingredients of optimized orientation. To further perfect things, from this winter we can download the new orientation app "Alpin Card Navigator" onto our smartphones, which makes life even easier in the entire Alpin Card area (see below).

Unmistakable If the Tyrolean and Salzburg mountains were there anyway, you wouldn't get into a flow on the descents. Fieberbrunn is known for its edgy terrain, especially in the upper freeride regions. While Saalbach Hinterglemm is traditionally the ideal place to learn to ski. Which is not to say that there aren't very challenging descents from Schattberg and Zwölferkogel. The significantly reinforced lower section of the Schönleitenbahn went into operation a few years ago. This upgrade was made with a view to the connection with the Schmittenhöhe Zell am See, which has now been implemented. The connection to the Schönleitenbahn is via the ski bus shuttle. As a result of this connection, the joint SkiAlpinCard ski ticket was created. This lift pass allows you to use all the lifts from Fieberbrunn via Saalbach Hinterglemm, Leogang, Zell am See and as far as Kaprun on the Kitzsteinhorn.

The merger itself with Fieberbrunn five years ago brought significant advantages. There is sometimes heavy traffic on the F14 Vierstadlalm. Crunching edge sound, now and again a small fountain of snow at the edge of the piste. A few meters below the Reiterkogel, the connecting piste branches off. At first it is quite wide and repeatedly provided with steep steps, but it only gets a little narrower towards the bottom. Hard-groomed 727 meters of finely hilled elevation, with a small variant as an additional challenge. Because new ski slopes are rarer than new cable cars, true ski fans quickly embraced this challenging additional piste. The approximately 200 kilometers of slopes in the Salzburg Ski Circus were supplemented by around 70 on the Tyrol side. The TirolS consists of two stages. The shorter one leads from the Pulvermacherscherm in the newly developed side valley up to the Reckmoos South valley station (Fieberbrunn ski area), the longer one on the Saalbach side to the Reiterkogel. In Fieberbrunn, the yellow gondolas go up directly above the wide piste. When the conditions are right, deep snow is often found in Fieberbrunn. It is no coincidence that the Freeride World Tour stops here every year.

Back in the Salzburg part of the Skicircus in Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Leogang: Once you reach the top of the Reiterkogel, it quickly becomes clear: The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn never lets you take a break. Three years ago, the upper section of the Bernkogel was equipped with a modern 6-seater chairlift. The snow trail was also extended there and offers additional elements such as a snow tunnel, high-fives, waves, jumps and steep curves.

Leogang's Asitzbahnen with the new 8-person gondola are anything but a gentle appendage. They offer mostly steep, often challenging valley runs to Leogang. In Leogang, the entry into the ski circus at the Kralleralm with the comfortable 10-person gondolas of the Steinbergbahn is also still new. The 4.7 km long Steinberg piste was recently added as a proper run! Strong foehn winds often rapidly decimate the white surface in the north-south valley. If you set off on a tour from Leogang or Fieberbrunn, you should start early. Despite the innovations, the entire circuit can only be completed in one day if you are in good shape and away from busy weekends. If you want to take the Asitz runs, this of course applies to all starting points.

Von Hinterglemm The morning ascent of Schattberg-West has proven to be the best in midwinter. The pistes are already partially in the sun up to the eastern summit. And from there, the long Jausern descent to Vorderglemm is wonderful at this time of year. At lunchtime, the slopes on the west side of the valley, located between 1,000 and 2,000 meters, are beautiful to experience, as are the countless sun terraces. If the pistes are too soft, then the Zwölferkogel is the place to go. The Glemmtal can be roughly divided like this: the right side, seen from Saalbach, combines the gentler slopes. An impression that is reinforced under intense sunlight. On the left, more shady, is the sports section, with Schattberg-West as the highlight and beautiful deep snow descents as an alternative.
