Mönichkirchen-Mariensee

    Mönichkirchen – Mariensee
In the shadow of the Hochwechsel

Far East, in the Lower Austrian-Styrian border region, the Mönichkirchner Schwaig attracts winter sports enthusiasts from the surrounding area, the greater Vienna and Graz areas and especially from the neighboring countries to the east. Hungarian and Slovakian are common in Mönichkirchen. Families with children, beginners and those returning to skiing are particularly common there. And that is not without reason, as the area is ideal for all categories of skiers - whether beginners, returning to skiing or ambitious advanced skiers with sporting ambitions.

Very flat, gentle beginner slopes, a 2.2 km long, easy to master valley run and cross-country runs through the forest are also fun for less experienced skiers or snowboarders. For the very little ones there is a platter lift, which was recently replaced by a new one, and a rope lift. The Hallerhaus run, the Schwaiglift with its fun park, which was recently re-equipped with jumps, rails, steep curves, butterbox and crazy hill, as well as a carving and racing slope are a little more difficult. The 1,450 m long FIS run, which leads into the medium-difficult 1,380 m long Marienseer run, is also fun for experts. It's really tough when you race down the steep slope at high speed and with long carving turns. However, caution is advised at high speeds when you head towards the Marienseer run and meet skiers or snowboarders coming from the other side of the mountain.
In total, there are 13.5 kilometers of slopes and three new 4-seater chairlifts. To ensure that winter sports enjoyment remains unhindered despite the relatively low altitude, the snowmaking system was expanded last year by five snow cannons. In addition, additional parking spaces (over 200 spaces) were built at the valley station in Mönichkirchen, eight e-charging stations were recently built and work has also begun on expanding the range of overnight accommodation options. And for those who want something climate-friendly: there is a bus stop right next to the valley station car park.
Throughout the ski area you will find "pleasure areas" with cozy rattan beach chairs and deck chairs. Here you can relax in the winter sun and unwind from everyday life. The same applies to the new viewing platform at the Schwaigbahn mountain station with relaxation elements. The Lella run from the Mönichkirchner Schwaig is also quite new, with a tunnel in the shape of a giant milk can. Most recently added are a photo point at the Panoramabahn mountain station, WiFi at the Sonnenbahn valley station and a ski movie track on the FIS-Mariensee.

active athletes and vitality holidaymakers can experience restful and relaxing days in the beautiful Wechselland. From the ski area you can not only access the 55-kilometer-long Hochwechsel cross-country ski slopes, but now guided nature and landscape tours with snowshoes are also offered. And every Monday and Thursday all the slopes are open for ski tourers and skiers after the lifts close until 8:30 p.m. The many terraces and snow bars of the rustic, cozy alpine huts, seven in total, also entice you to stop off again and again with food and drink of appealing quality. And last but not least: Mönichkirchen/Mariensee is part of the Eastern Alps map network.
