Loser Altaussee

    Loser Altaussee
Idyllic winter freshness in the heart of the Alps

The Ausseerland is an extremely scenic area that has a lot to offer not only nature and culture lovers, but also sporty people. The region has long enjoyed the reputation of being a classic summer resort, and is increasingly emerging from its slumber in winter too. The climatic health resort of Altaussee attracts with a varied range of slopes at 800 to 1,650 meters above sea level for the whole family: beginners and advanced skiers alike will find plenty of space for gliding, carving and swinging on the wide slopes on the Sandling opposite the Loser. Snowboarders can enjoy themselves in the fun park, which is considered an insider tip in the scene with jumps, a smooth wave rail, kicker combo and other structures. There is also a boardercross course. In addition, the Loser Freestyle Club, founded in 2006, is trying to set new impulses in everything to do with freestyle snowboarding and skiing.
The Loser offers a magnificent view over Lake Altausseer, the Salzkammergut and the Dachstein massif, and it is not for nothing that the mountain station of the ski area is called the Loser Window. With its extensive alpine terrain, the area also offers the possibility of almost limitless freedom from deep snow above the tree line. In an effort to ensure comfort, detachable 6-seater chairlifts with hoods and padding ensure transport to the higher regions of the ski area. In total, there are four chairlifts, three drag lifts and a "magic carpet" that provide access to 34 kilometers of slopes.

As the hardest route The Graskögerl piste is one of the most popular, with a difference in altitude of 200 metres over a distance of one kilometre. The snow reliability at the Loser is, according to the resort itself, "proverbial" due to its central Alpine geographical location. Most recently, crowdfunding with the involvement of the local population to the tune of 6.5 million euros enabled the area to be fully covered in snow - and the range of piste options was also expanded. An online voucher shop was also set up.
The high plateau on the Loser in a sunny south-facing location is particularly fascinating: when skiing, the whole family can experience paradisiacal slopes and descents of all levels of difficulty - from the practice slope, children's ski area and FIS course to the fun park. Beginners and those returning to skiing can practice their first turns in the ski schools, and there are of course special ski courses for children. In addition to the direct ski path to the Jufa Altaussee, new features include fat bike piste fun, two black slopes, the Sommersitz Ost descent and the Loser-Alm-Schuss, WiFi hotspots and tobogganing on the nine-kilometer-long family descent.

snowshoe hikers and ski tourers also find the best conditions in the untouched snow landscape on the Loser. Since last year there have been new winter hiking trails that can be reached with the Loser Jet and the double chairlift. Ice skaters can do their pirouettes on Lake Altausseer or on the nearby Grundlsee. And around ten huts and inns provide culinary delights. Another tip is the picturesque Alpine village "Hagan Lodge", consisting of 62 holiday homes and chalets built in a natural wooden construction, where you can ski right up to the house. And another tip for a climate-friendly journey: If you have a ski pass or ski equipment, you can take the post bus number 955 free of charge from Bad Aussee train station to the Loser ski area.
