Kitzbühel mit Kirchberg, Jochberg, Mittersill

    Kitzbühel
    Brilliant diversity

superlatives are not uncommon in Kitzbühel. For example, when it comes to the descent from the Streif, ratings or ski area awards. The highlight of the earliest start of the season apart from the glaciers on the Resterhöhe is now being dispensed with for (environmentally) conscious reasons. Nevertheless, given the altitude, which is by no means enormous, the start here is early. Kitzbühel has shaken off another superlative in recent years: since a year ago, when no increase was made, other top ski areas are more expensive, even though the basic prices have increased again by around 10 percent.

comfort gain This year, the Jochberg area promises this. Two new 6-seater chairlifts will be put into operation here. From winter 2023/24, the Leitner cable cars 6SB Gauxjoch and 6SB Trattenbach will replace the aging previous lifts - a 3-seater chairlift and a drag lift. The premium individual seats with intelligent seat heating and slightly tinted weather protection hoods are considered a comfort extra. For others, the accelerated ascent will be more important.

online discount is now the name of the pricing system introduced last year. If you book online and well in advance, you can save up to 20 percent. This means that it could still be cheaper for many skiers this winter despite the price increase. The prices given in this article are the ticket prices in high season, which also represent the upper limit. There are also traditional special days for certain groups of guests. A large number of significantly reduced day tickets were also successfully introduced last winter for people who do not want to use the entire ski area, but only individual lifts, such as inexperienced skiers who have outgrown the free valley lifts. In addition, there is now a standardized, easy-to-understand piste guidance system for the entire Kitzbühel ski area, which really caters to everyone.

The Fleckalm is not exactly the trademark of the Gamsstadt in its external appearance, but especially guests who live in Kirchberg or are only coming to the ski area for a day, the first impression of the cable car located just before the entrance to Kirchberg. You save yourself the hustle and bustle of the town and there are usually enough parking spaces. Since the high-speed 10-person gondola whizzes up to Ehrenbachhöhe with its high capacity, waiting times before the ascent are almost unheard of.

The Hahnenkamm and thus the famous Streif is just a short drive down and up from the mountain station. Because of its worldwide television presence, the spectacular Streif is still the most attractive. Even those who are not able to swing elegantly down the extremely steep sections can still enjoy a look at the mousetrap and the steep slope exit. The steep sections are usually closed until the race weekend - and even after that it is not necessarily advisable to try out the often extra icy sections immediately after the race weekend. In addition to the telegenic "Streif", the Kitzbüheler Horn is also one of the trademarks of the chamois town.

It would be fatal "KitzSki!" is to be reduced to the Hahnenkamm side and the slopes above Kitzbühel and Kirchberg alone. Deep snow on the remote Kitzbüheler Horn, which has broken with tradition and now also has artificially snow-covered slopes, is also part of the skiing fun. There is a special feature there on the Bichlalm: "The Snow Cat", a piste machine with a cabin for up to nine people, transports freeriders in particular up the Stuckkogel every half hour. All of this is part of the Kitz winter, such as jumps in the fun park or the après-ski hustle and bustle that is picking up again after the Corona years. At the Hahnenkamm race in 2022, the spectator stands were almost empty. This winter, however, there is great optimism. Then various A-list and nothing celebrities will once again mingle with the partying crowd. But even those who don't like hustle and bustle can still enjoy Kitzbühel and its surroundings. For example, the six perfectly signposted winter hiking trails.

The ski area is so fine, some people don't need the fine people in the city. Let's approach Kitzbühel from an unusual side, namely from Salzburg: From Mittersill/Hollersbach, the panoramic cable car takes you to the Resterhöhe. From here, all the peaks are almost the same height. While at the Thurn Pass (Resterhöhe), the valley station is still at 1,274 metres. The difference in altitude between the runs increases with distance. So it becomes a sweeping rocking ride all the way to Kirchberg. Even the short pistes after the Resterhöhe are fun, especially the steep slope from the summit station of the "Zweitausender" lift.

The entrances are varied. At Kirchberg, there is not only the Fleckalm, but also several options in the direction of Aschau without the stress of waiting. Jochberg might even be the best place to start at the moment, because Wurzhöhe is reached after just seven minutes. If you are feeling a bit weak at this point, you can use the 3S panoramic cable car that spans the valley to the actual Kitzbühel area. After the 3S crossing, you can finally let off steam. For example, on the 56er descent to Aschau, which tempts you to take amazing deep snow excursions. But of course: if you are here for the first time, you won't want to miss out on the Streif descent. What, still not enough? Then there is the KitzSkiWelt tour, which also includes the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser.

Speaking of prices: As already mentioned at the beginning, Kitzbühel is now characterized by a variety of tariffs that offer the right ticket for every need. In addition to the online discount described as an Animo for early booking, there are of course the staggered tariffs for later starters and those for whom a final descent into the valley is enough for the day after a long lunch break.
Many additional promotions cannot be shown in their diversity in the short information list shown here. There is a reduced price for ski tickets for children and young people on Saturdays and Sundays in the economy and basic season. Free travel for children (Kids go free) is offered on December 16, 2023, January 21, 2024 (World Snow Day), March 2, 2024, March 16, 2024 and March 30, 2024. The daily Horn Special for the ten lifts on the Kitzbüheler Horn is a welcome addition. Other rates for sub-areas are Resterhöhe, Gaisberg, Ganslern, Wagstätt and Bichlalm Special.

environmentally conscious The current focus is on the efficient and economical use of resources. To ensure that a guilty conscience does not spoil the day of skiing, we are pleased that KitzSki has defined savings targets that have been able to reduce electricity and gas consumption in particular without any loss of quality.
