Hochrindl
Hochrindl
More than an insider tip – not just for families
Anyone in the Carinthian Nock Mountains If you want to spend your skiing holiday or just take a day trip to a beautiful winter landscape, the Hochrindl is the place for you: As an inexpensive alternative to Bad Kleinkirchheim or Turrach, the Hochrindl is not only very popular with families. 20 kilometers of slopes in the area, which is located at an altitude of 1,540 to 1,882 meters, offer a very extensive and varied range of options. The ski area, which was again awarded the Carinthian Slope Quality Seal in 2023, has nine slopes - from easy to difficult and five drag lifts, a connecting lift and a four-seater chairlift. Generations of children learned to ski here. Young and old have long appreciated the panoramic views and manageable size of the natural paradise. And larger groups also like to come to the Hochrindl, as ski races and club events or company ski days are also organized here. Since the Hochrindl was taken over by private Carinthian investors in December 2017, who invested three million euros in the reservoir, snowmaking and access systems with the involvement of the regional population, the family ski area has once again had a promising future.
Nordic winter sports fans will also get their money's worth on the Hochrindl, as it is one of the most popular cross-country skiing areas in Carinthia: 22.5 kilometers of trails offer a wide range of options: On the trails between 1550 and 1750 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a great view of the magical, snow-covered alpine landscape while exercising. Childhood memories are brought back to life on the Hochrindl during a hearty toboggan ride. There are three tracks available for whizzing along on the fast runners. The track that starts at the Zirbenhütte is even illuminated after dark and has a timer, which gives the fun an extra kick.
But also on foot Here you can experience winter from its beautiful, quiet side. 20 kilometers of cleared winter hiking trails lead through the snow-covered landscape of the Nockberge towards the white cross or around the cone. The picturesque landscape, an often deep blue winter sky and the wonderful view of the Carinthian Nockberge make every snowshoe hike something special. If you want to try out this nature experience, you can get instruction from the experts at the Hochrindl ski school and then set off straight away - either alone or on a guided snowshoe hike. And if you don't have the right winter sports equipment: In addition to ski, snowboard and cross-country skiing courses, the Hochrindl ski school also offers pretty much any winter sports equipment for inexpensive rental. For those who love the sun, there are also sun loungers throughout the ski area for you to relax on.
The rustic gastronomy on the mountain - e.g. in the Hiaslhütte, the Wuggani Hütte, the Herzlhütte, the Bauernstub'n or in the Sternen Berg under the patronage of star chef Hubert Wallner, which invite you to a culinary stop with Carinthian specialties - is also worth mentioning. You can stay overnight not only in the Hotel Jufa, but also in the newly expanded Hiaslhütte or in one of the many alpine chalets.
