Hochficht
Hochficht
Relaxing winter experience for families
As a winter sports pearl The Hochficht ski area is located between the rolling hills of the Mühlviertel and the Bohemian Forest in the border triangle of Austria, Bavaria and the Czech Republic. The 20 kilometers of slopes are located in a low mountain range between 930 and 1,338 meters above sea level and are relatively snow-sure due to the regional climatic conditions. 100 percent of the slopes can be covered in snow. Former ÖSV President Peter Schröcksnadel became the owner of Hochficht a few years ago with 50 percent and since then there have been numerous investments and improvements.
Most recently, the valley station area was fundamentally redesigned with a modern arena, slopes were adapted, slopes were widened, the snowmaking systems were expanded and a modern 10-person gondola was built for around ten million euros. In addition, the electric charging station was expanded, equipment was purchased for the fun park and the snowmaking system was expanded to over 130 units. The ticket point now includes three machines and a personal cash register. Since last year, there has also been a new web shop for easy and contactless booking.
The ski area in the north of Upper Austria is somewhat remote, but it is relatively easy to reach from the greater Linz or Passau areas. The range of slopes extends from family runs to the European Cup-tested FIS race course. A men's FIS race takes place in Hochficht almost every year. The Krumau ski route and Zwieselberg ski route are ideal for off-piste skiers. Nevertheless, the emphasis of the area, with its particularly large number of blue and red slopes, is on being family and child-friendly. Difficult sections of the slopes can be bypassed. Hochficht has a number of family facilities, such as a covered conveyor lift, fun slopes and fun park, lifting devices for children on the chairlifts and the new gondola lift for maximum comfort. In addition, children up to the age of ten only need a ticket for a few euros when a parent buys a lift ticket, and students up to the age of 26 travel at the youth rate. Those returning to skiing can get straight from the car park to the easy practice slopes; There are two magic carpets for less experienced winter sports enthusiasts. More experienced winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy a ski and boardercross course with wave tracks and steep curves and tunnels, and a fun park for action enthusiasts. Night skiing under floodlights is also possible on Wednesdays and Fridays. Special arrangements are possible for school ski courses. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the area. The web shop has also been upgraded.
Gastronomic Three huts - one of them, rather original, called "Gasthaus zum Überleben" - ensure a sufficient range of culinary options. And finally, away from the pistes, five kilometres of winter hiking trails and the opportunity to go snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, curling, tobogganing, ice skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides and paragliding provide winter variety. A real Upper Austrian classic for the whole family.
