Annaberg

    Annaberg
Tranquil family idyll with added value

The Annaberg ski area south of St. Pölten, about halfway to Mariazell, offers everything a day of skiing needs and is one of the favorite areas of Lower Austrians and Viennese. This is hardly surprising, as it can be reached in one and a half hours from the federal capital and has been characterized by above-average snow reliability in recent years. In total, there are 12.5 kilometers of slopes that offer a lot for beginners, returning skiers, advanced skiers and boarders - including FIS-compliant slopes and mogul slopes. Although not very high, the area is snow-sure; there are also modern snow-making facilities.
Shortly after the town of Annaberg with its striking church, you enter the ski area that is particularly suitable for families. It dominates the gently mountainous landscape of the Lower Austrian Alpine foothills. The best panoramic view is from the mountain station of the Hennesteck lift, which is 1,334 meters high. The descent down into the valley, into the center of the ski area behind the town, is also appealing. Otherwise, easier slopes dominate, which are ideal for children and which can gradually work their way up to more difficult terrain, starting from the children's area with a covered conveyor belt. Worth mentioning are the "Anna Land" with its rest hut and the "Anna Forest" - the latter a pleasure with a slightly adventurous touch, just as the little ones like it.
The permanent ski and snowboard track, where you can test your skills in cornering and jumping, is certainly attractive for young people and sporty adults. There is also a speed measuring track, the Söllnreith racing track and the widened Almboden track. Families and beginners particularly appreciate the easy slopes in the flat area of the Reidl lifts and the corresponding offer from the ski school. Most recently, the children's area was redesigned and a fun park for beginners was built - so it is clear where the focus lies.

But also all Those who prefer the skiing experience off the slopes can do so in Annaberg: either on the Hennesteck tour over the Weisse Kreuz or on the Tirolerkogel tour to the Annaberger Haus or in the new cross-country ski park. Every Thursday there is a ski touring evening at the Anna-Alm from 5 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and every Saturday evening you can go tobogganing under floodlights.
Although there is enough going on in Annaberg and WiFi hotspots and Skiline altitude measurement have recently been set up, the atmosphere is still a little sleepy, which certainly has its charm. The gastronomic infrastructure is also good: the range extends from conventional ski inns with schnitzel and chips to relaxed, loud DJ terraces for rural youth, to rustic, tasty farm snacks and alpine huts with a view. Even those accompanying small children who may not ski - for example grandma and grandpa - or walkers can spend a pleasant, relaxing winter day in Annaberg given the surroundings. And anyone who is staying longer and wants a change of pace can also spend a day on the Gemeindealpe Mitterbach or the Mariazeller Bürgeralpe thanks to the three-mountain ski pass.
