The Petzen, the majestic local mountain of southern Carinthia, invites you to an unforgettable winter experience. The modern cable car whisks you comfortably from 650 m above sea level to the mountain station at 1,708 m. Whether on skis or a snowboard, cross-country skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, or simply enjoying nature: everyone will find their own personal winter bliss here.

Sport and recreation are top priorities on the Petzen. Our slopes offer ideal conditions for skiers, snowboarders, beginners, returning skiers, and professionals. Children and newcomers will find particularly suitable conditions in the valley. New this season: a magic carpet lift right at the mountain station, sure to delight the youngest skiers. The challenging slopes and the 7.5 km long, snow-covered valley run with a vertical drop of 1,200 meters guarantee winter enjoyment at its finest. The Petzen Freestyle Area also provides pure action. The Petzen Ski School in the valley is your expert partner for fun and learning success on the slopes – with courses and private lessons.

Variety off the slopes
Ski tourers and snowshoe hikers will find ideal conditions on their way to the summit, with breathtaking panoramic views stretching from the Großglockner to the Koralpe. Alternatives to classic winter sports include the panoramic restaurant at the top and the "Geo.Dom" – the visitor center of the UNESCO Global Geopark Karawanken, both easily accessible from the mountain station, even without winter sports equipment. The winter offerings have thus been expanded for non-skiers: experience walks, panoramic views, fine cuisine, and fascinating natural and cultural research. This winter, the UNESCO Geopark Karawanken also offers guided snowshoe hikes: from introductory sessions to challenging summit ascents or magical sunrise tours. For cross-country skiers, the nearby Pirkdorfersee cross-country ski area offers ideal training conditions with snow-covered trails and illuminated tracks for night skiing.

Culinary highlights
Four charming partner mountain huts offer culinary delights: the panoramic restaurant "oben" right at the mountain station, the Alte Zollhütte on the ski slope, Emmis Mosthütte on the valley run, and the Petzen Nest at the parking lot. All emphasize regionality and serve traditional mountain hut dishes as well as Carinthian and Slovenian specialties.

A special highlight: Austria's highest-altitude Christmas market
Experience a unique pre-Christmas season on the Petzen! The Christmas market takes place on five dates in December 2025 (December 6/7, 13/14, and 20). Around 15 exhibitors present lovingly crafted handmade products made of leather, wool, felt, wood, and tin, as well as regional delicacies such as chocolate, honey, cookies, liqueurs, juices, and much more. Be inspired, discover new gift ideas, and local specialties. Culinary delights await you at the Christmas market, courtesy of "Werner Berg Geniesserei," "Hotel Petzenland," the mountain rescue service, and Juvan Nejc. The panoramic restaurant "oben" and the Geo.Dom are also open. A contemplative music program on the open-air stage and in the St. Anna Chapel completes this special atmosphere.
