Spectacular sporting performances and exciting competitions can be expected at the sled dog races in Sportgastein.
A touch of Alaska will be in the air when the world's elite sled dog athletes meet in snow-sure Sportgastein from February 28 to March 1, 2026. Hundreds of sled dogs will provide the atmospheric soundscape of this top event with their excited howls at the start of the middle-distance and sprint races.
Up to 150 participants from around 20 nations will take part in the races in Gastein!
Spectators can experience the race up close and free of charge, right along the course. In the team paddock, the "stakeout," you can watch the mushers prepare, care for the sled dogs, wax the skis, and harness them. Spectator dogs are not allowed in the stakeout.
The start and finish area is located in front of the Valeriehaus, where you can admire spectacular starts and cheer on the athletes as they cross the finish line.

Important: Dog owners should keep their four-legged friends on a leash and not go directly to the track.
