In Innsbruck, Tyrolean tradition and modernity blend seamlessly. This is evident at the seven magical Christmas markets during Advent, each with its own unique character. The oldest and largest Christmas market in the Old Town, located directly beneath the mighty Christmas tree in front of the Golden Roof, offers a truly nostalgic atmosphere. More than 65 stalls offer handicrafts and Christmas tree decorations, and from the viewing platform, you'll feel as if you're floating above the hustle and bustle and the romantically decorated huts. Fairytale Alley offers 20 stories and characters, some of them interactive and newly designed, for all fairytale fans to discover. The giants in the Giants Alley lead visitors into the world of legends and myths surrounding Innsbruck.
Even higher up is the Christmas market on Hungerburg, the highest in Innsbruck. It's small but perfectly formed and boasts stunning panoramic views of the city. The Christmas market on the market square is especially recommended for families, who will appreciate the wide range of activities for children, from puppet shows and storytelling to virtual carriage rides. This is also where the world's only 17.5-meter-tall Christmas tree made of Swarovski crystals stands. The market on Maria-Theresien-Straße, where vendors display Christmas products from all over the world, is very modern, especially with its lighting design. Those who prefer a quieter, more atmospheric setting will find the lovingly designed stalls at the small markets on Wiltener Platzl, Bergisel, and St. Nikolaus in the right place.
