Once celebrated as a must-attend event for ski mountaineers, the event was relaunched in 2025 and has since impressed with a fresh format and its time-honored spirit. This year, the Achensee Xtreme has a compact yet high-quality sporting format, as all the race highlights are held on one day.

Technically demanding sections, challenging climbs, and the impressive backdrop of the Rofan Mountains above Lake Achensee ensure an intense and athletically demanding individual race at the Achensee Xtreme 2026. However, due to the ongoing problems with old snow and the resulting safety concerns, this year's race will be held in a secured ski area. The revised course combines a descent with directional gates, challenging carrying sections, and selective climbs in alpine terrain, thus guaranteeing a high-quality competition.

Given the current conditions, it wasn't possible to hold two races of this caliber with the usual quality. "We're really doing everything we can to put on a top-notch day in the Rofan. That's why we decided to pool our resources and focus clearly on the individual race," explains Benjamin Neuner. The changes were made by WSV Jenbach.

In addition to the individual race, the Achensee ski touring fun continues in the Rofan mountains – true to the Olympic motto "Taking part is everything," the focus here is not on the fastest time, but on the shared experience. Participants start in teams of three, and the team that comes closest to the secret target time wins. High-quality prizes await the winning teams.

The event day is intentionally designed to be spectator-friendly: Ascent via the Rofan cable car is possible from 8:30 a.m., or alternatively, the climb can be made on foot. From the mountain station, there is an optimal view of the Achensee Xtreme race. And: The Achensee children's race invites young ski touring enthusiasts to gain their first competitive experience – playfully and without pressure to perform.
