The Hotel Hinteregger in Matrei is an exciting hideaway in the magic of East Tyrol's winter, a highlight for architecture lovers, individualists and culinary connoisseurs. And it is an ideal starting point for enjoying winter fun in the mountains - from the Matrei-Kals ski area to the nearby ice climbing park.
Outside, the mountains in all their winter splendor and variety, inside an oasis of warmth, peace and relaxation. The Hotel Hinteregger is a refuge for mountain lovers who are looking for something special and where tradition and modernity are lived in an inspiring way. The wellness area combines natural materials such as stone, clay, wood and water to create a harmonious whole and the genuinely good food comes from the hotel's own organic farm.
The Hotel Hinteregger is located in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, with the family-friendly "Großglockner Ski Resort Kals-Matrei" on the doorstep. With 18 ultra-modern cable cars and lifts that lead directly to the snow, this is one of the most beautiful ski areas in the Alps. It goes up to over 2,600 meters above sea level, 44.6 kilometers of varied slopes on the sunny side of the Hohe Tauern and no waiting times at the lifts - that's what makes winter sports fun. Add to that the breathtaking panoramic view of 60 three-thousand-meter peaks in the Glockner, Schober and Granatspitz groups and the valley run takes skiers directly to the gondola in Matrei.
East Tyrol also delights with its untouched landscapes and wild romance. Ski tours and snowshoe hikes lead into the quiet nature of the national park. Winter hikers reach alpine pastures and easy peaks, professionals find the ultimate alpine winter experience here and adventurers get an adrenaline rush from climbing in the Matrei Ice Park. It is a great way to slow down by pulling the toboggan to the cozy hut and, after a break, going down the natural toboggan run, gliding through the valleys on cross-country skis, competing with locals on the curling rink or simply walking through the snow-covered landscape and enjoying the wonderfully clear mountain air.
Eventful winter days end comfortably at the Hotel Hinteregger. The hotel, located in the town center, is a very pleasant refuge in the middle of the mountains. But manager Katharina Hradecky ensures that it doesn't seem rural: "We preserve the tradition of the old in combination with innovation, modern architecture and design," she aptly describes the philosophy of her hotel.
For example, a relaxed après-ski: enjoy the crackling fire, reflect on the day in the sauna and relaxation room and unwind with a massage while the pots are bubbling in the kitchen so that traditional Tyrolean cuisine made from regional products is served on time and fresh. Our tip: wine tastings are held regularly in the cellar bar.
