Tiroler Zugspitz Arena mit Biberwier, Ehrwald, Berwang-Bichlbach, Lermoos, Wettersteinbahnen

    Tiroler Zugspitz Arena
    With air to breathe

It is a wide basin, around which several manageable ski areas are grouped, which together with the Berwanger Valley form the Zugspitz Arena. Two years ago, the "Obere Karbahn" and the "B-Active-Center" were built in the sunny Berwanger Valley, which is also popular with cross-country skiers and hikers, as the first part of the overall renovation. Instead of continuing with the extension of the Karbahn as Section 2 as planned, construction of Section 3 was brought forward for this winter. A fully automatic, child-safe 6-seater chairlift with comfortable seats and weather protection hoods. The region may be named after Germany's highest peak, but the quickest and most comfortable way to reach it is from Ehrwald in Tyrol. Up above, the ski area is cozy and the museum is always worth a visit. Down below, the Moos between Lermoos and Ehrwald, located at an altitude of 1,000 meters, can be breathtaking.

Visually, of course, but especially when you set out on cross-country skis to circle the summer golf course. In the very different ski areas on the "edges" of the basin, alpine skiers naturally rule. Only in some sections do the steep slope artists get their money's worth. But the Grubigstein ski area near Lermoos in particular has amazing things to offer with its wide slopes and a natural "fun slope" directly under the chairlift.

With the Blueline XXL you have "perhaps the longest blue run in Austria". But it's not really that "blue". The 6-piste is red, but sometimes easier because it's less busy and better groomed. The XXL's weakness is the red runs that cross it. A pleasant detour at Grubigstein is to the Wolfrathshauser Hut and "Werner's Hut Toast".

The Ehrwalder Alm as another large ski area can be seen as an underrated insider tip. It is not the gradient that impresses, but the incredibly wide pistes, which are prepared well into spring. The ski area is divided into the actual Ehrwalder Alm and the Issentalkopf, where the shadier and steeper piste 8 awaits as an exception to the rule. The Ehrwalder Alm has been upgraded this winter with a new valley station with escalators to the cable car, a covered bus stop, Kiss & Ride parking spaces and much more. Once a week, the perfectly groomed main run is "sacrificed" to tobogganers in the evening. Remarkable speeds are reached and the waves and hills put a lot of strain on the intervertebral discs over the course of the evening.

Coming from Germany The first cable car is worth a stop. The Almkopfbahn takes you to the Berwangertal valley, which is 1,300 metres high and described at the beginning. It is immediately apparent that the trip to the Berwanger valley is an outstanding experience, and not just in terms of the landscape.
