Obertauern
Obertauern
All around it is not difficult
The Tauern Pass has history and writes stories. Ever since The Beatles put the then dreamy place on the tourist map with their film "Help". The memory of the Fab Four is still held dear in Obertauern to this day. Otherwise there will be fewer musical and evening distractions this winter and in this way the "winter fairytale" with carriage rides, hiking, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, but above all the pistes will be given full attention. Although the pistes only reach a little over 2,300 meters, the start is always high. Obertauern is therefore not the place for endlessly long individual runs. The profile ensures the length because no lift has to be mastered several times in one day. Particularly pleasant: the day of skiing begins and ends with buckling up right in front of the hotel door. Thanks to the 10 different entry points to the ski circuit, there is no morning rush hour!
Upgraded The latest addition was the Plattenkar. The combination lift – which alternates between 8-seater chairs and 10-seater gondolas – offers a dignified Alpine style thanks to loden and leather. The Seekarspitz area was already blessed with a new lift. Since then, it has been even more fun to conquer the slopes on the left, seen from below. The Seekareck offers even more options. Snowboarders have conquered their own “corner” at the Kehrkopf. “The Spot” is the name of the long play park at the valley station closest to Untertauern. In terms of skiing, two trademarks stand out in Obertauern: the “Tauernrunde” and G2, once the steepest of all drag lifts as “Gamsleiten 2”. Dozens of millions of euros invested in lifts later, the ride up is comfortable. Going downhill, it is still not easy to keep your footing on the bumps.
G2 is an indispensable extra the "Tauernrunde" lift circuit, which can be completed both clockwise and anti-clockwise. However, you should not be tempted to take an endlessly long diagonal ride from the Achenrainbahn to the Zehnerkargondel. This would leave the peaks on the western side of the pass, Gamsleiten and Zehnerkar, to the left. For a great freeride section, climb a few meters from the Hundskogel to return to the piste 700 meters lower at Karboden. Or you can enjoy varied hours on the snow or e-fat bike, airboarding, biathlon and snowkiting.
Children are the focus of many of Obertauern's activities. The Bibo Bear family ski park is a real hit with the little ones. Another special feature of Obertauern is that the ski-in ski-out hotels are ideal for letting children make a few turns on their own, without any danger, while parents or grandparents are still or already comfortably squinting in the sun at one of the numerous ice bars.
