Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

    Obergurgl-Hochgurgl
Early start away from the glaciers

Traditionally, As early as mid-November, it is often the first non-glacier ski area to open for winter. Sometimes there is natural snow, but most of the time the snow is thanks to snow cannons.

The men's World Cup slalom is an additional argument for an early start to the ski season this winter. For the first time, in addition to the big World Cup opening on the glacier above Sölden with the men's slalom on November 18th in Obergurgl in the farthest part of the Ötztal, there will be another World Cup event. The quality of the winter sports on offer will speak for itself over the next few months, until the final whistle blows at the end of April. Except for ski tourers who are drawn to Obergurgl for even longer. Overall, the top stage of the Ötztal leads from the traditional mountain village directly into the high-tech present. With attractive huts as WiFi hotspots.

The last one so far A new addition to the extensive range of lifts was the second section of the Kirchenkarbahn, which opened up new slopes up to 2,839 metres. Freeride fans can enjoy a varied area on both sides of the mountain station. The high altitude and the north-east orientation of the slopes below the Kirchenkogl guarantee the best conditions until spring. On the other side of the arena, above Obergurgl, the Hohe still requires courage. Less on the newer slope, which has been brutally cut into the landscape, than on the "classic" ski route 11 to the Nederhütte, an absolute mogul slope that is a real test of endurance. The Festkogel, which has two access points from the town entrance and the centre, offers descents that can be tackled with long or short turns, and the route through the Ferwalltal is by no means extreme.

relaxation areas with panoramic views provide moments of retreat throughout the ski area. If you want to conquer the Hochgurgl area (2,150 m), climb into the Topexpress, which serves exclusively to connect the two ski mountains. However, taking the gondola back and forth during the day is pointless due to time constraints. From Hochgurgl, the 3,000-meter peak is reached at Wurmkogel and Schermerspitze. The visual impression is sometimes more exciting than the mostly wonderfully groomed slopes. At Wurmkogel, there is probably the most modern "hut" in the world, the Top Mountain Star. It's actually a bar with a panoramic view (including a guaranteed view of the chamois!).

The Top Mountain Crosspoint is more than just a valley station. The Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum(!) was completely rebuilt after a fire. If the thrill of speed on the slopes isn't enough for you!
