Krippenstein

    Krippenstein
Completely free in the terrain – glacier backdrop included

to ski instead of taking the lift - that's the motto in the Freesports Arena Krippenstein in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut. The imposing mountain massif, which is dominated by the Hoher Dachstein, opens up a wide range of possibilities. With a length of around eleven kilometers and an altitude difference of 1,500 meters, the descent from the Krippenstein via the Gjaidalm and the mountain village of Krippenbrunn to Obertraun is one of the longest and most interesting in Austria. But it's not just classic skiers and snowboarders who get their money's worth at the Krippenstein - the extensive terrain at up to 2,100 meters altitude is a hot tip especially for freeriders and lovers of beautiful ski tours - from the Krippenstein to the Dachstein glacier. The Schönberg, Angeralm, Imisl and Eisgrube variants delight freeriders on both skis and snowboards and have made the Krippenstein a freeride Eldorado. The Freesports Arena Krippenstein was chosen by the magazine "SnowPlanet" as the hotspot of the freerider scene, and beyond runs and cliff drops, the "Stoa", as the locals respectfully call the mighty mountain, impresses with an exciting outdoor program away from the mainstream. This starts with snowshoe hiking on three marked trails to the "5Fingers" and the World Heritage Spiral and guided tours, continues with freeride training and snow camps, ski tours, ice climbing, dog sledding, and even paragliding. If you want, you can also take one of the well-trained freeride and ski guides, which is also advisable for all those who do not yet know the area well. Freeride and of course conventional skis can be rented at the valley station. Since 2020, there have been early morning ski tours for ski tourers every weekend at 7:30 a.m.
“Extreme hut sitting” is also an option that can provide some well-deserved relaxation after a strenuous freeride experience on the piste at Krippenstein. There are plenty of options available – from rustic huts to exclusive lodges and mountain restaurants. Free Wi-Fi hotspots are also available.

A total of 30 kilometers Off-piste options, an outstanding fun park and the snow reliability of the Dachstein glacier area make you want to try powder snow and fat boards. Whether you're skiing or boarding, the numerous options will delight every powder freak. Schönberg, Imisl and Eisgrube offer rough rocky ridges, varied slopes and selective forest routes, 1,500 meters of elevation per ride demand stamina and concentration. Anyone who wants to watch the top international freerider scene up close can do so at special race events. At Krippenstein there are tens of square kilometers of high alpine terrain to let off steam, and you can get up there with a modern cable car costing ten million euros. The infrastructure all around is perfect and the slopes are also suitable for beginners and advanced skiers - including an eleven-kilometer valley run. Attractive offers with a varied winter program are also tailored to school groups.
