Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun
Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun
Two paths, one goal – the glacier
Nature is moving thanks to the spectacular 3K Kaprun-Kitzsteinhorn connection, the Kitzsteinhorn is increasingly coming into focus when ascending the Kitzsteinhorn. This is ensured by the wide panoramic windows in the gondola - and in one of them, part of the floor is even made of glass. But 3K-K is also a benefit for skiers. From the day the Maiskogel slopes are open, the glacier skiing day on the Kitzsteinhorn does not end until the skis are unbuckled down in Kaprun. The Kaprun generation project did not create any new slopes, but rather enhanced the entire area. The fact that Kaprun is directly connected to the Kitzsteinhorn not only completes the wonderful, wide slope of the Maiskogel, but also creates a third option for getting to the glacier. It is particularly recommended for those living in Kaprun.
Already in previous years the glacier ski area was successfully redesigned. As a result, the slopes on the Kitzsteinhorn are hardly divided any more. Since the 8-seater Schmiedingerbahn not only ended the queue at the drag lift, but also created more slopes. Now we can expect excellent, trouble-free carving fun, which athletes have been able to experience again since the start of the season on October 7th. These extremely wide slopes are the result of a policy that already had an impact a few years ago with the mega investment in Gletscherjet 3 + 4. The Kitzsteinhorn, which looks out over Lake Zell, was the first glacier ski area to be developed five decades ago. But for skiing, it will stay forever young, to combine two Ambros titles. With Gletscherjet 3 and 4, as well as the new chairlift, you can now use almost everything the glacier has to offer. In addition, the duo of lifts means you can reach the eternal ice more directly all year round. Pleasant side effects of the gondolas are protection from wind and weather - and of course shorter ascent times. You never get bored at Kitz. Five years ago, "Black Mamba" was released on the glacier. In this case, the agile little animal is the up to 63 percent steep, one-kilometer-long black slope No. 14. The Mamba is slim, often hard, and therefore quite snappy. The start is at the valley station of the Kristallbahn. Most recently, the Eagle Line was added as a gentle alternative, a modern fun line with steep curves, small jumps and special obstacles.
A highlight The Gletscherwelt 3000 mountain station remains open to the public – including day trippers – with its national park cinema and viewing platform. Of course, the perfectly groomed slopes, thanks to new snowmaking systems, are the basis for a day of skiing, but the highlight of the Kitzsteinhorn are the freeride trails. X1, called "Ice Age", is one such case where you would be better off not skiing without markings. But the Kaprun glacier cable cars have come up with an outstanding idea: the missing link between marked slopes or ski routes and open terrain. The result is the five signposted freeride trails, including an information base. If the trails are open, there is no acute danger of crevasses or avalanches. The best place to start is at Gipfelwelt 3000, then take the inclined lift down, from there - on the right when viewed from above - "Ice Age" starts. After that, the initially very steep deep snow slopes widen out. If the conditions are right.
