Kasberg Grünau
Kasberg Grünau
Natural idyll for families, beginners and returning skiers
The Kasberg, which calls itself the most central ski area in Upper Austria - in the middle of the Salzkammergut - is the first ski region in the country to receive the "Welcome Beginners" certificate. It is one of the few areas that positions itself as a specialist for beginners and those returning to skiing. Of course, it also has a lot to offer more experienced carvers or snowboarders - namely three kilometers of black slopes and a fun park that has everything you need.
However, the offer for beginners predominates in the wild and romantic winter sports region of Grünau Kasberg, which can be reached quickly from the motorway junctions and offers 23 kilometers of slopes. 80 percent of the piste area, which is between 620 and 1,600 meters high, can be covered in snow. An 8-person gondola lift takes you right into the middle of the ski area, and at the mountain station at just over 1,200 meters right next to the Sonnalm there is the children's ski arena with lifts suitable for beginners and a conveyor belt. There is also a magic forest, several themed slopes and a children's race track.
For the children's ski arena Special rates apply, children up to six years old receive a KidsCard for 4 euros when accompanied by an adult. Senior rates apply to those born in 1957 and above. Another tip is to get three to five hour tickets. And to ensure that you don't miss out on the real skiing experience, there is a twelve-kilometer-long family run. Two pistes are FIS-certified. From the middle station area, you continue to the Jagerspitz lift, the Sonnen and Nord lift with blue, red and black pistes and up to the summit. More challenging skiing is the order of the day there, and at 1,600 meters above sea level, the freestyle park can be found at the two Regenkar lifts - including downboxes and rails, kickers, walls, flat boxes and rainbow professional style. An iSki tracker system for analyzing your skiing data is also available.
Nice, not too heavy Descents through the forest to the side of the pistes are also an experience when there is fresh snow. There is a separate ascent track for ski tourers. And skiing is possible until 10 p.m. on Thursdays and all full moon nights.
Another highlight of the area is the two-kilometer-long Kasberg winter hiking trail and three snowshoe trails. From the mountain station of the 8-seater gondola, the trail goes through the forest towards the Hochberghaus. This is one of five restaurants on the mountain that have all kinds of culinary delights to offer - such as the extremely rustic Sepp Huber Hut at 1,506 meters above sea level, where you can take a wonderful rest.
