The Achensee and Tiroler Zugspitz Arena tourism associations are launching a pilot project and, together with wetter.com, one of Europe's leading weather service providers, are establishing a regional network of automated weather stations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weather forecasts play a central role in the Alpine region \u2013 for example, in the planning of leisure activities, mountain safety, event decisions, and consumer decisions of guests and locals. Despite existing measurement infrastructure, comprehensive weather data collection in Tyrol remains a challenge. The complex topography with widely varying altitudes makes pinpoint forecasts difficult \u2013 especially where precise information is particularly relevant for tourism, leisure, infrastructure, or safety. Many existing forecasts are based on model calculations that are not based on current, local measurement data. This is precisely where the initiative of Achensee Tourism and the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena Tourism Association comes in: Together with wetter.com, a regional network of fully automated weather stations has been established in both regions. This continuously collects data and makes it publicly available. The targeted densification of the network thus contributes to greater transparency, forecast quality, and decision-making bases \u2013 for the population, guests, and organizations alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of twelve stations were set up \u2013 seven in the Achensee region and five in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. The stations measure, among other things, temperature, humidity, wind, and precipitation, and transmit new values every ten minutes. The locations were chosen in consultation with meteorologists from wetter.com, who ensure ongoing operations and integrate the data directly into their forecasting systems. Since the stations are operated according to the standards of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), they can be integrated into national and international weather models. In the long term, weather apps, media, security services, and scientific institutions will also benefit from more precise, locally coordinated forecasts. The measured values from both regions are available under www.wetter.com<\/a> visible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Achensee Tourism also publishes its own weather data on the website www.achensee.com<\/a>to provide the best possible service to outdoor athletes, such as paragliders and sailors. In addition, data from the measuring stations on Lake Achensee is fed into datahub.tirol. This data platform, run by the Tyrolean Regional Development Agency, enables companies, research institutions, and public bodies in Tyrol to exchange and use data securely and efficiently \u2013 with clear rules, transparency, and for the benefit of the entire region. This fully meets the requirement for open data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
